Martha Stewart does not live here.

I'd rather be watching The Golden Girls.

Write about something you feel should never have been invented. Explain why you are against this invention.

Social networking should never have been invented.  It is a parasite in our contemporary lives.  The lofty esteem with which people hold networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. is appalling.  It is a dreary day for the modern education system when a lecture hall turn into a veritable internet cafe.  Nowhere do I see highlighted textbooks or note taking.  I see computer screen after computer screen of the horrific abomination to culture that is Facebook.

Social networking sites (and the various devices used to access them) are creating a public of divided attention.  Every day I encounter this phenomenon.  In a simple daily walk, I can count approximately 85% of individuals that are busy on a cell phone, iPod, or other electronic gadget.  And the vast majority of those individuals are invariably accessing a Facebook or Twitter account.  Or, I bet, at least they’re thinking about doing so.

This is how I see it: There comes a point when the pixels on the screen lose their humanity. What’s left after we lose that?
